Freeze your eggs

Take control of your fertility, freeze your eggs and improve the chances of having a baby in the future.

Is egg freezing right for me?

There are many different reasons you might be interested in freezing your eggs.

Social egg freezing refers to a woman's decision to freeze her eggs. This may be right for you if you don't feel ready to have a baby yet, perhaps you haven't found the right partner or have other plans in your life right now. Whatever the reason, freezing your eggs can help you preserve your fertility for the future, when the time does feel right.

If you are assigned female at birth and are going through a medical gender transition, or having gender reassignment surgery this can cause a loss of fertility permanently. Freezing your eggs before you transition can give you options for starting a family in the future.

You may be undergoing medical treatment such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy. These drugs can harm your fertility, and preserving it beforehand is a good insurance policy for the future.

What is egg freezing?

Egg freezing is a fertility preservation treatment in which eggs are collected and frozen so that you can use them to try and become a parent in the future.

The process, also known as oocyte cryopreservation, involves stimulating the ovaries to produce multiple eggs which are then extracted, frozen and stored for up to 55 years in the UK. Once you decide to conceive, the eggs are thawed and fertilised with sperm in vitro, creating embryos that can be implanted into the uterus.

How egg freezing works

1
Ovarian stimulation
You will take hormone medication for a few days, in order to mature the eggs within the ovaries.
2
Monitoring
You'll have regular blood tests and monitoring scans, to check the growth of eggs.
3
Egg collection

Once the eggs have reached a suitable size, they are collected in a short procedure at one of our partner clinics.

4
Eggs are frozen
The resulting eggs are then fast-frozen using vitrification, ready for storage.

What age should I freeze my eggs by?

In order to achieve the best amount of quality eggs, it is usually recommended that this procedure takes place before the age of 35. However with Apricity you may be able to freeze your eggs up to 43.

Our egg freezing package includes all treatment services and medication required for one full cycle and storage for one year.

Usual Patient Profile

You are a good candidate if you meet any of the following criteria:

→ You are going through medical treatments such as cancer treatment, using medication to transition and gender reassignment surgery.

→ You aren't ready to have a baby, for many different reasons such as not being ready, having not met the right partner, or concentrating on other plans. You may want to preserve your fertility a bit longer.

→ Occasionally, egg freezing takes place in a previously planned IVF cycle if sperm is not available.

Age and outcome:
Reports from the HFEA reveal that while a woman’s age at thaw has relatively little impact on the chances of success, the age at freeze or at treatment does, with evidence showing that if eggs are frozen or used in treatment below the age of 35, the chances of success will be higher than the natural conception rate as the woman gets older. This means it matters far less what age a woman is when she uses the eggs; what is more important is the age the patient is when the eggs are frozen or used in fresh treatment.

Usual Patient Profile

You are a good candidate if you meet any of the following critera:

→ If you have been trying to get pregnant for a year, we usually recommend fertility diagnostics. In certain situations, we may recommend them sooner than this.

→ If you have any questions on whether diagnostics are right for you, please get in touch with one of our advisors to discuss your background and fertility history.
