What is the egg freezing process?

Egg freezing, also known as oocyte cryopreservation, is a procedure in which eggs (oocytes) are collected, frozen, and stored for future use.

1
Ovarian stimulation
You take hormone medications which encourage your ovaries to produce more eggs than during a normal natural cycle. This process usually takes around 8 to 14 days. You'll have regular monitoring through blood tests and scans throughout.
2
Egg collection
Once your eggs have matured, a procedure called egg collection will take place. This involves inserting a thin needle into your ovaries to collect the eggs.
3
Egg freezing
Your collected eggs will be evaluated in the lab by a trained embryologist before they are frozen using fast vitrification.
4
Storage
Your frozen eggs are stored in cryogenic tanks filled with liquid nitrogen. In the UK, the standard storage period is 55 years, however if you’d like to store your eggs for less than that you can indicate it.
